4 Country Summer Jams to Get Your Mind Off the Bone-Chilling Cold

People across the United States are experiencing below-average temperatures, snow, and other late-winter ravages. In short, it’s colder than it should be and people everywhere are trying to find ways to stay warm. Heaters, quilts, electric blankets, and roaring fires are all good choices. However, those who are looking for a little mental warmth can turn to country songs that remind them of summer. Think of it as a case of mind over matter with added twang.

“Beers and Sunshine” by Darius Rucker

Most people can agree that this weather is BS. Luckily, Darius Rucker’s country summer jam from 2020 offers some rock-solid alternatives to the BS that is the temperature and other weather conditions. Beers and sunshine, bonfires and summertime, and back porch nights in South Carolina all sound like great alternatives. Even if that last one is a bit of a stretch.

“Long Hot Summer Day” by Turnpike Troubadours

Plenty of people would rather work in the hot sun than try to relax in freezing temperatures. For those people, there’s Turnpike Troubadours’ cover of this John Hartford classic. It’s all about spending long days in the hot sun working on the Illinois River. At the same time, chicken consomme–a clear broth-based soup–doesn’t sound bad right about now.

“Toes” by Zac Brown Band

Unless you’re ice fishing or getting paid to be there, you’re likely nowhere near the water. However, this 2009 summer banger from Zac Brown Band will make you wish you had your toes in the water and your ass in the sand. Or, if you prefer the radio edit, you’d be dreaming about putting your toes in the water and the sand. Either way, it’s better than being shin-deep in snow and hoping the grocery store doesn’t run out of milk and bread before you can get there.

“Chattahoochee” by Alan Jackson

It’s probably illegal to put together a list of summer country songs and not include this absolute banger. Alan Jackson co-wrote it with Jim McBride and released it as the third single from Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ‘bout Love) in 1993. While the song is about growing up and coming of age in a small town, it will likely remind any country fan of time spent in the hot sun.

If the song itself doesn’t help you warm up, watch the music video above. Watching Jackson water ski and cruise around on a boat will likely help. On the other hand, it might make you jealous. Your mileage may vary.
