4 Forgotten Country Bands That Should Have Been Huge

Making it big in the country music industry isn’t easy. In fact, those who are lucky enough to get their 15 minutes of fame often fall into obscurity shortly after. It’s a tough industry, and far too many stellar acts have fallen through the cracks. Without further ado, let’s explore just a few forgotten country bands that should have been way more popular than they were!

1. Wild Choir

This country music outfit was put together in Nashville back in 1985. Their self-titled debut came out in 1986, complete with three excellent singles. Specifically, “Heart To Heart” did particularly well and made it to no. 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

The country rock band was set up for success. Sadly, nothing really came from the band afterward. They never released a follow-up, and they ultimately broke up in 1987. This was likely due to the controversy that their music was “too rock” for country radio. Their legacy lives on, though; they’re considered pioneers of late-20th century Americana today.

2. The Notorious Cherry Bombs

Remember The Notorious Cherry Bombs? This band is an unfortunate entry on this list of forgotten country bands, considering their song “It’s Hard To Kiss the Lips At Night That Chew Your Ass Out All Day Long” was such a big country-comedy hit back in 2004.

However, the band was around for decades before then. Two famous members of The Notorious Cherry Bombs were Vince Gill and Rodney Crowell, who would technically define the band as a supergroup. After that 2004 hit, The Notorious Cherry Bombs broke up and the remaining members resumed their solo careers.

3. The Sky Kings

Another bona fide supergroup, The Sky Kings was made up of Rusty Young, Patrick Simmons, Bill Lloyd, and John Cowan. They saw a bit of success with the 1992 single “I Could Get Used To This”. They released a few other successful singles as well, including their biggest hit “Picture Perfect”. Sadly, after shelving a project in 1997, they broke up for good.

4. SHeDAISY

This entry on our list of forgotten country bands had quite a bit of success back in the day. SHeDAISY was a trio of female country singers who made it big with their debut 1999 record, The Whole SHeBANG. The album made it to no. 6 on the Top Country Albums chart. Songs like “Little Good-Byes” and “Lucky 4 You” were pretty major hits.

The band recorded four more albums that charted well after their debut. Sadly, after parting with their label in 2010, SHeDAISY more or less disappeared from the face of the earth. They haven’t been active since 2011.
