Foreigner emerged as a power ballad machine in the late 70s, and there’s a reason why this rock group is still one of the bestselling groups of all time. Here are four Foreigner songs that can easily resurrect any karaoke night.
“I Wanna Know What Love Is”
This song doesn’t really need an explanation. “I Want To Know What Love Is” is pretty much the ultimate power ballad, especially for those who are yearning for a romance of their own.

“Waiting For A Girl Like You”
In terms of success, “Waiting For A Girl Like You” is right up there with “I Want To Know What Love Is”. This song is about wondering if the person you’re with is your person.
“It’s the kind of song that the pen does the writing, and you don’t even know where it came from,” Mick Jones said of this song to Songfacts. “But I feel that it’s stuff that’s floating around at times and you have to grasp itโit’s kind of flying around in the air, and you just have to be open enough to let that flow through you. Sometimes it’s sort of mystical where these ideas come from. Sometimes you have an idea about a song, or you have a title that you base the rest of the song on, but sometimes it comes just literally from an unknown area. You’ll be thinking about something completely different, and suddenly you get that inspiration…”
“When It Comes To Love”
“When It Comes To Love” is kind of like the polar opposite pair to “I Want To Know What Love Is”. This song sings about regret, especially when it comes to letting go of something that could have been really good for you.
How time was on my side
Lost sight of my perfect world
And the man that I’ve become
From the damage that I’ve done
It’s so clear to me now
But I wished that I
Never was the kind
To steal a lonely heart
And I didn’t see how good you were for me
Now it’s too late to go back.
“That Was Yesterday”
This song is kind of ironic because while the title makes it sound like it’s about somebody who is moving on, it’s actually about someone who still wants to live in the past.
“There was a song on theย ‘Agent Provocateur’ย album called ‘That Was Yesterday’, which is a song about a relationship that failed, which you’re still clinging onto,” Jones told Songfacts. “You still feel that there’s a chance to resurrect it. Some of these songs require really digging down deep, and sometimes they bring out very painful moments that you’ve had. A lot of the songs that I’ve written of that kind of emotion, they bring me to tears. They’re painful to recall.”ย
