After work might be the greatest time of day. You’ve done everything you need to do at the workplace, you’ve dealt with bosses, TPS Reports, annoying coworkers, that last-minute email that came in right before you were going to clock off—and now you’re ready to go home. But what’s next in your day? That’s right! A lovely post-work jog.

Whether you run around your neighborhood or on a treadmill, getting some exercise at the end of the day can be crucial. It can rev you up for a nice dinner. It can get some nervous energy out. It gets you sweating and your blood moving. But what to listen to as you run to the finish line? That’s what we wanted to explore here. Indeed, these are three classic rock songs that are perfect for your after-work jog.
“Eye Of The Tiger” by Survivor from ‘Rocky III’ (1982)
The quintessential pump-you-up song, this track comes from the soundtrack of the 1982 hit boxing film, Rocky III. Written for the express reason to get audience members enthusiastic for physical activity, the song has lived on for those reasons, too. But the track almost never came to be. Rocky actor and director Sylvester Stallone first approached Queen about a song for the film. But when they said no, he turned to Survivor, and the rest is sweaty athletic history.
“Born To Run” by Bruce Springsteen from ‘Born To Run’ (1975)
This one may be a little bit on the nose, but so what? When you get on that treadmill or hit the sidewalks, you want to believe you can achieve your goal. So, what better way to do that than to hear The Boss sing in your ears that baby, you were born to run! The classic tune has become synonymous with Springsteen, whose early work had so much to do with shedding the shackles of a small town and looking for more, more, more. Looking for what’s out there. So, you too can venture out there!
“Start Me Up” by The Rolling Stones from ‘Tattoo You’ (1981)
Many say that the hardest part about going out to exercise is just beginning. That’s where the British rockers The Rolling Stones have you covered. Put this tune on just as you’re about to walk into the gym or outside of your home and let the energy of Mick Jagger and company get your engines going. Let them literally start you up and then see how much your feet can move, your legs can pump, and your workout can get off to a terrific start.
