Americanafest NYC Adds Educational Symposium

New York City’s Americanafest has added an educational symposium to its line-up of events. The symposium, held at Lincoln Center, will discuss the legacy of American music and the convergence of older generations of performers and modern artists.

Films featured in the symposium include Heroes of Americana: From the Historic Films Archives and Talkin’ Blues: Music Maker Relief Foundation’s Beverly “Guitar” Watkins, Ironing Board Sam, Dom Flemons, and Tim Duffy. In addition,Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale will do a  live taping of their popular Sirius XM radio broadcast  the “Buddy and Jim Show.” 

The weeklong festival, scheduled for August 4-10, will include 15 concerts and several film premieres. Featured performers include:  Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Robert Ellis, Devil Makes Three, Old 97’s, John Fullbright, Rosanne Cash, Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale, The Lone Bellow, and  St. Paul & The Broken Bones and more.

Accompanying the symposium is an exhibit at The New York Public Library called We Are The Music Makers, honoring the history of Southern music. The exhibit will run July 9 – August 24.
