In a press release, the network and production company revealed that the 2025 American Music Awards will air live from Las Vegas on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26.

The 51st AMAs will honor the most popular songs and artists of the year while paying tribute to our country’s troops.

The ceremony’s host, presenters, and performers have yet to be announced. However, the press release did promise that the show will “pay special tribute to our veterans through authentic performances and unforgettable moments.”

Additionally, a video announcing the awards show’s return included clips from stars such as Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Post Malone, Megan Thee Stallion, Shakira, Rihanna, The Weeknd, Olivia Rodrigo, and more.

Why the American Music Awards Took a Break

Dick Clark created the AMAs for ABC in 1974 after the network lost the rights to broadcast the GRAMMY Awards to CBS. The awards show aired on the network until the contract ran out in 2022. Afterwards, the AMAs needed to find a new broadcast home, leading to its two-year absence.

The AMAs last occurred in 2022, when Wayne Brady hosted the ceremony that aired on ABC. After a total absence in 2023, CBS aired a retrospective special, American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special, in 2024.

The star-studded program was one of the most-watched entertainment specials of the year, surpassing 13 million in reach and averaging over 6.1 million viewers. It included appearances, interviews, and performances from Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Jimmy Kimmel, Kate Hudson, Lance Bass, Reba McEntire, Samuel L. Jackson, and more.

The AMAs’ return isn’t a surprise. Back in August, Dick Clark Productions and CBS announced that the awards show would air in May 2025.

The 2025 AMAs will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ live coast to coast at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on May 26.
