A homecoming is in order for Ben Folds Five. For the first time in almost a decade, the group will reunite tomorrow night in Chapel Hill, NC, where they started up in 1994. In its first collaboration since October of 2000, the ironically named trio of Folds, Robert Sledge, and Darren Jesse will perform their fourth and final album, the 1999 pop masterpiece The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner in its entirety. The band parted ways at the tail end of a world tour in support of the release, which hit number 35 on the Billboard 200, and received generally positive reviews.

The show, which will take place at UNC Chapel Hill’s Memorial Hall, is part of Myspace Music’s Front to Back Series, for which bands perform popular albums live for online streaming. The less than 800 tickets available to the general public (630 seats were reserved for UNC students), went fast, lasting only 3 minutes on Etix.com when tickets went on sale September 8th. At the time being, this appears to be a one-off reunion. While nothing could ever compare to the real deal, those who weren’t lucky enough to snag a ticket should check out Myspace.com/fronttoback in October for a full airing of the show, as well as interview footage.
