We’re excited to report that, after a 13-year break, Ben Folds Five is set to release a new album, The Sound Of The Life And The Mind, on September 18.

Although BFF split up in 2000, they released a live performance on Myspace in 2008 and recorded three new songs for the anthology album, The Best Imitation Of Myself: A Retrospective, released in 2011.

The band raised money for the album release by working in conjunction with pledgemusic.com. The website helped BBF get in touch with their fans and promote the new album through a pledge campaign. Fans who have helped donate on Pledge Music will receive an early release of the new album along with bonus material. A percentage of BFF’s sales from Pledge Music will be donated to the charity organization, Music Education and Music Therapy.

Ben Folds Five gave their first live performance in more then a decade at the New York City Mountain Jam Festival in early June. Since then they’ve appeared at a handful of summer music festivals, including Bonnaroo (read our review of the show here), Milwaukee Summerfest and Old St. Patrick’s Church Block Party in Chicago.

The band will hit the road to promote the album in September. The tour will begin in North America and will continue in the UK and Australia. More dates for the 2012- 2013 tour will be announced later this summer.
