For country couple Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, the 44th annual CMA awards were a dream come true. Shelton pickedhttps://americansongwriter.com/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=48715 up Male Vocalist Of The Year, and beamed onstage as he accepted the award. “It’s about 34 years worth of steps right there for me, y’all,” said Shelton. “This is a really big deal for me.”

Lambert, who was also celebrating her 27th birthday, earned four CMAs, including Female Vocalist Of The Year, Album of the Year (for Revolution), and Video Of The Year for “The House That Built Me,”which garnered songwriters Tom Douglas and Allan Shamblin Song Of The Year.

Lambert also got to duet with Sheryl Crow and surprise guest Loretta Lynn on Lynn’s immortal song “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” and earlier, performed the John Prine-penned “That’s The Way Love Goes Round.”

“After the night that Blake and Miranda are having, I think we can expect a baby in about nine months,” joked co-host Brad Paisley, who welled up with tears after he was named Entertainer Of The Year. Paisley had won a whopping 13 CMA Awards in the past, but never the big one.

Other big winners tonight: Lady Antebellum, who won Vocal Group Of The Year, and Single Of The Year for “Need You Now.”  Zac Brown Band clinched the coveted New artist Of The Year trophy, and Sugarland were named Vocal Duo Of The Year.

The evening also featured many notable, if abbreviated, performances. Reba McEntire kept it contemporary by performing Beyonce’s “If I Were A Boy,” Zac Brown Band dueted with Alan Jackson, and Kid Rock belted out “Born Free.” And of course, actress Gwyneth Paltrow made her live singing debut, performing a solid version of the Country Strong title track, backed by Vince Gill.

  1. You all might say this, I however totally disagree and big time, these two are a joke to our industry, good grief be real, for example did you perhaps see the fan’s choice, oh you must’ve Trace hosted I will confess I didn’t watch most of it, wanted to see Toby and caught him, would’ve liked to catch AJ but missed him, however my point is Blake won nothing oh if you count that Hill Billy Bone with Trace okay, but nothing on his own, and as for Miranda completly shut out, folks dont’ like her, she has proved herself a not very nice person, and as far as this insane couple ever even borrowing the space of Tim & Faith well it will never be, nobody in their right mind even believes they’ll make it a year after they marry if they make it that far, both like much too much to party on their buses and don’t seem to be all to caring on who is in attendance, you’d never see either Tim or Faith being so disloyal. It will always be Tim & Faith forever so you might as well start to print some truth, folks must’ve felt sorry for Blake, and we all know that Reba’s word carries a great deal and we also know Tim doesn’t cater to anyone for anytthing except his wife and children which is how it should be, they will always be tops in our books, so please no more of this utter nonsense! Thank-you!

  2. Having been a fan of Miranda and Blake for years, I can tell you that both are very caring to fans and their community. They are also both great entertainers in their own right. Blake has had a good career for 10 years. Obviously he has many fans since he won 2 ACA awards recently. He has had 7 #1 singles and been on many great tours. Miranda was shut out at the ACAs, Carrie had more fans that voted. Good for her. She had a great year aswell this year. But if ya want to get technical Miranda won a CMT award from the fans earlier this year, so she is doing just fine by her fans as well. Miranda has been putting out quality work for years. All of her albums have debuted #1 on the charts and been critically acclaimed. She is very respected as a songwriter and artist. I also like Tim and Faith and don’t know why you are even mentioning them in your post. Blake and Miranda are crazy about each other and have been for years. I, like many, wish them all the happiness in the future!
