Bob Dylan has put up a new song on his website, a cover of “Full Moon And Empty Arms.” The song was released in 1945 and written by Buddy Kaye and Ted Mossman, who based the melody on Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (how’s that for the “folk process?”)

It was popularized by Frank Sinatra, who Dylan is an avid fan of.

The song features some lovely pedal steel and a crooned, clear-voiced vocal by the 72-year old Dylan. We didn’t know he still had it in him.

Could a new covers album (in the vein of World Gone Wrong and Good As I Been To You) be in the works? It’s certainly possible.

Update: A rep for Dylan says the song is indeed from a new album due later this year, entitled Shadows In The Night. No release date has been set, but you can view the album cover below.

Dylan’s last effort, Tempest, topped our Albums Of The Year List in 2012.
