Carlos Santana Gets Engaged, To His Drummer, On Stage

Everything is going his way….

It was anything but just another gig for Carlos Santana. The guitar legend asked his drummer, Cindy Blackman, if she would marry him four songs into his July 9 Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois. The veteran musician popped the question right after Blackman had completed an awe-inspiring drum solo during “Corazon Espinado.” Blackman, who’s played with Lenny Kravitz, Cassandra Wilson, and Bill Laswell, accepted.

“Cindy and I are blessed to have found each other,” said Santana. “Being in love is a gift from the universe, and the spirit and vibrations that come with it are infinitely powerful. I look forward to expressing that incredible energy through my music, and in helping to tip the balance toward more love in the world with what Cindy and I share.”

Santana is currently on tour with opener Steve Winwood. On September 21, he’ll release Guitar Heaven: Santana Performs The Greatest Guitar Classics Of All Time. Guest vocalists include Pat Monahan, Joe Cocker, Rob Thomas, and Gavin Rossdale.
