Deer Tick Will Become Deervana, Cover Nirvana Songs At SXSW

Videos by American Songwriter

Indie rockers Deer Tick will morph into Deervana, an all-Nirvana cover band, at Austin’s Lustre Pearl on March 19, during this year’s SXSW Festival.

This seems appropriate: we once met Deer Tick lead singer John McCauley at a party, and got a “more well-adjusted Kurt Cobain” vibe. One can only imagine that Deervana wil play some “Radio Friendly Unit Shifters,” attempt to “Milk It” all night long, and offer “All Apologies” if they mess up.

Deer Ticks’ latest album is The Black Dirt Sessions. McCauley will also be playing with Middle Brother, the band he shares with Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit, at SXSW.
