Seventeen years after Doug Stone brought us “I’d Be Better Off (In A Pine Box),” fans of that country classic will be pleased with the 11 songs on his latest disc, My Turn. Despite several near-death experiences that derailed Stone’s touring, his voice is as clear as it was almost 20 years ago. With My Turn, Stone strikes out on his own for the first time as a producer, while staying true to the sound that made him a success in the 1990s. Although he offers a couple hard-rocking numbers, his strength still lies in his portraits of everyday life, like “Nice Problem,” and his heartbreaking ballads, such as the self-penned “You Were Never Mine to Lose.”
