Dylan Endorses Obama

Bob Dylan is no stranger to the political game. Considered by many to be the greatest “protest” songwriter of all time, Dylan has never been shy when it comes to expressing his opinion about politics and civil rights. Bob Dylan is no stranger to the political game. Considered by many to be the greatest “protest” songwriter of all time, Dylan has never been shy when it comes to expressing his opinion about politics and civil rights. None of that has changed, as Dylan recently announced his support for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Dylan’s primary reason behind his support for the Illinois senator is his hope for change. He recently told the London Times that “[Obama] is redefining what a politician is, so we’ll have to see how things play out. Am I hopeful? Yes, I’m hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to.”

Bob Dylan is not the only musician to get involved in the 2008 election. Other supporters of Obama (several of whom participated in the now famous, YouTube-hit “Yes We Can” video) include Black Eyed Pea’s Will.i.am, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, and the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen. On the other side of the political spectrum, Ted Nugent and Burt Bacharach plan to vote Republican. Whether or not musicians will have a significant effect on the upcoming election is yet to be seen, but the recent resurgence in musician activism shows that the times really may be a-changin’.
