Like KISS, Tina Turner, The Rolling Stones and Brett Favre before him, Garth Brooks just can’t stay away. Brooks held a press conference Thursday morning in Nashville to announce his return to the stage, ending weeks of media speculation that many have referred to as “country music’s worst kept secret.”

“We’re going to take the retirement roof off over our head, and I already feel taller,” Brooks said.

Nine years ago, Garth Brooks left the spotlight to stay home and raise his three children with new wife Trisha Yearwood. Known for his high-octane country tunes, Brooks led the way for the pop-country acts that are so popular today. In 2007, Brooks broke Elvis Presley’s record to become the number one selling artist of all time. To date, his albums have sold 123 million copies worldwide.

Above all else, Garth Brooks is known for his outrageous, high-energy live act. He flew, he spit fire, and he did more on a stage than more performers half his age can accomplish –and he did it while singing live to sold-out crowd after sold-out crowd.

“As for touring, if I can’t eat it, sleep it, breathe it, then it ain’t me,” Brooks said.

Brooks has remained mum about whether this comeback will include a new album- all that is known at this time is that he is expected to begin an artist residency at the Wynn Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Steve Wynn is expected to make that announcement official during a press conference at 1 p.m. today.
