For the past two weeks, Janet Jackson has canceled a wave of shows on her “Rock Witchu” tour, citing a mysterious illness. Now back to performing condition, the singer has finally revealed what has kept her away from the stage: vertigo. Specifically, Jackson has been suffering from vestibular migraines, a particularly rare form of migraine that causes dizziness, imbalance, and vertigo-like symptoms.

Her trouble all began September 29 in Montreal when the singer canceled her show soon after arriving in the city. Since then, Jackson has canceled shows in Boston, Philadelphia, Greensboro, N.C., Ft. Lauderdale, and Uncasville, Conn. Jackson attempted to return to the stage in Greensboro but canceled the show per doctor’s orders. With yesterday’s announcement, Jackson took the stage at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., marking the return of her first North American tour in seven years.

Speaking about the incident, Jackson’s manager, Kenneth Crear, explained the canceled dates saying, “She’s a world-class entertainer and needs to be at the top of her game to give her fans the show they expect. She’s feeling much better and is ready to hit the road again to finish the tour.”

Crear also revealed that Janet Jackson would soon announce new dates to replace the canceled shows.
