According to a November 6 press release, country recording artist Josh Turner plans to launch the Josh Turner Scholarship Fund to “provide assistance to high school students who would like to pursue a career in the field of Arts and Entertainment.”

The scholarship awarded by the foundation will go to a well-performing high school student desiring a college education based heavily in the study of the arts. Turner, a Nashvillian and Belmont University alum, cites his lack of exposure to both art and music education in high school as one reason for establishing the fund.

“When I got to Belmont, I felt so lost in my music classes because I’d never been taught a lot of music theory,” he explained. “I’d never heard of ear training. It was like learning a whole new language.”

“The interesting and beneficial aspect of this fund is that you don’t have to be a singer or performer to qualify for this scholarship,” Turner continued. “You can pursue basically any job that is directly associated with the music industry. The possibilities are endless.”

A portion of the program’s funding will come from the sale of “JT Fund for the Arts Bracelets,” which can be found at www.joshturner.com along with more information regarding the scholarship.

The first scholarship will be awarded to a student of Turner’s alma mater, Hannah-Pamplico High School in Hannah, South Carolina.

In addition to being nominated for a “Musical Event of the Year” CMA, Turner will be presenting on the 42nd Annual CMA Awards November 12.
