If you’ve noticed a lot of Led Zeppelin being played in between NFL games, know that it’s no coincidence. In an effort to support his 2-CD very best of collection, Mothership, Zeppelin has joined forces with America’s favorite sports station, ESPN. Also, to help publicize their reunion tour kicking off December 10th in London, spots of the band have been shown in between games and commercials, including live highlights and preview sections. According to Digital Music News, ESPN and NFL are complementary, so teaming with them is a “smart-stab.”

Another way ESPN is showing homage to the band is by using their song titles to help describe team’s performances. David Duffey, sports editor for ESPN.com said on October 16th, “The Cornhuskers were ‘dazed and confused’ again on Saturday, dropping a 45-14 decision to Oklahoma State in Memorial Stadium.” Also adding in response to Dr. Tom Osborne stepping in as interim AD for the Huskers, “We’ll see if Dr. Tom’s return will help the Huskers find the stairway to Big Red heaven.”

The decision for the partnership has come after a number of other digital deals were made with the band, including a deal with Verizon Wireless to be the first to offer the band’s ring tones and wallpaper. And hey, at least hearing Zeppelin might ease the agony of watching some of the harsh games this season. However, if your team is winning, who doesn’t want to rock out to “Kashmir?”
