Quentin Tarintino puts the T.A.M.I. Show “in the top three of all rock movies.” VH1 put its original theatrical run at Number 15 on the “100 Greatest Moments in Rock History.” And Rick Rubin called it “the single greatest rock and roll performance ever captured on film.”
Now The T.A.M.I Show, a 1964 concert film featuring performances by The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Supremes, and more, is being made commercially available for the first time ever. The concert took place at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1964, only seven months after the Beatles played the Ed Sullivan Show, and was the first rock concert film.
The T.A.M.I. Show: Collector’s Edition will be released on DVD by Shout! Factory on March 23, and will feature bonus footage, radio spots, an interview with the director, and a booklet of photos and memorobilia.
All the artists turned in fantastic performances, but one in particular stood out: James Brown’s infamous, electrifying set went on to be a major influence on Michael Jackson, Prince, Mick Jagger, Sting, and many others. The T.A.M.I. Show was added to the Library Congress’s National Film Registry in 2006.
