In 2007, Marcus Mumford, Ted Dwane, Ben Lovett, and Winston Marshall formed the folk-rock quartet Mumford & Sons. Between 2009 and 2018, they released four albums, winning multiple awards. In September 2022, frontman Marcus Mumford dropped his solo debut, Self-Titled, sparking concerns that the band’s days were over. However, the multi-instrumentalist promised we hadn’t seen the last of Mumford & Sons. They made good on that promise in March 2025 when they released Rushmere, their first album in seven years. Now, Mumford & Sons is traveling the country on their Railroad Revival Tour, and Lainey Wilson recently joined them onstage in New Orleans.

Lainey Wilson Is Angling For “Mumford & Sons + One New Sister”
On Sunday (Aug. 3), Mumford & Sons welcomed country music Lainey Wilson to the stage in her home state of Louisiana. The reigning Entertainer of the Year surprised the crowd at the Champions Square in New Orleans with a performance of her hit “4x4xU.”
Much to the audience’s delight, Mumford then sounds off with the familiar rallying cry: “Let’s go, girls!” Then Wilson joins him for Shania Twain’s 1999 classic “Man! I Feel Like a Woman.”
“Literally we are not worthy,” one TikTok user gushed.
Mumford is all over the stage as he sings, Oh, oh, oh, go totally crazy, forget I’m a lady / Men’s shirts, short skirts / Oh, oh, oh, really go wild, yeah, doin’ it in style. All parties involved are clearly having the time of their lives, which Wilson reiterated in an Instagram post of her own.
“Can it be Mumford & Sons + one new sister now?” she wrote. “Made music and friends for a lifetime with all of these folks in New Orleans yesterday.”

The VMAs Have Added a Country Category
At this point in her career, Lainey Wilson has collected just about every country music accolade possible. Now, the “Wildflowers and Wild Horses” singer, 33, has a chance to dominate MTV’s Video Music Awards as well.
On Tuesday (Aug. 5), the VMAs announced the addition of a country category for the first time since its 1982 inception. Wilson landed among the nominees for “4x4xU.” She is in good company alongside Chris Stapleton (“Think I’m in Love With You”); Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood (“I’m Gonna Love You”); Jelly Roll (“Liar”); Megan Moroney {“Am I Okay?”} and Morgan Wallen (“Smile.”)
