If you go see Beachmont live, get ready to get wet. They described their concert experience in one word—sweat.
“The first three rows are much like SeaWorld – all splash zone,” members said.
The band’s colorful approach to its music and live shows captured American Songwriter’s interest. The outlet scoured thousands of entrees for its The Road Ready Talent Contest. This contest broadened its borders beyond songwriting to include stage performance and audience connection.
Beachmont, along with Joe Jenneman and SmithField, are the three finalists.
The artists will compete live for the Grand Prize, including $20k in cash and more, on April 22 at Nashville’s Basement East. A VIP audience and American Songwriter’s panel of judges will be in attendance.
We are doing a Q&A story with each artist.
Meet Beachmont
American Songwriter: What does being a Road Ready finalist mean to you?
Beachmont: Someone at American Songwriter saw us and thought we didn’t suck! Still trying to figure out if Tyler’s mom paid them off – if not, let us know who to make the check out to. Honored to be here!
American Songwriter: What about the Road Ready experience will be the most impactful to your development as a musician?
Beachmont: If we win the 20k we’ll finally be able to pay off our guitar center credit cards!! We’re also really looking forward to the live showcase and playing for an audience that hasn’t heard of us before (looking at you industry folks (insert eyeball emoji here))
American Songwriter: How would you describe your music to a new listener?
Beachmont: If you gave The Boss (Bruuuuuuuuuuce) a macbook with one (1) license for Ableton (12 suite) and unbridled access to facebook marketplace and also his college football team hadn’t been good in 25 years (Go Big Red Babey!) – that.
American Songwriter: Describe yourself as a performer. What can people expect from your shows?
Beachmont: We dress like we just walked out of an ’80s coming-of-age movie, and may look like we’re about to change your car’s oil, but don’t be fooled, Josh always has Jiffy Lube coupons on lock (also Tyler hasn’t had a gas cap for like almost a year). We’ll probably be running around and break at least one thing (our heartfelt apologies in advance to the Basement East employees).
American Songwriter: What’s the one song in your catalog you’re most proud of, and why?
Beachmont: Water Weight – the snare doesn’t sound like trash.
American Songwriter: What are your goals as an artist?
Beachmont: World domination and also to be able to afford rent! We really love playing live and feeling/seeing the sounds we make in bedrooms resonate with real people. We’d love to be on the road doing that perpetually. If there’s any agents reading this you want to sign us sooooooooooooooo bad. Also Coachella.
American Songwriter: Who are your influences?
Beachmont: We’re big fans of an old school sound and artists that exude that – Bruce Springsteen, Sam Fender, Jack Antonoff/Bleachers, Simon and Garfunkel, and Don McClean. We also love acts like The 1975, Porter Robinson, Cage the Elephant, Phoebe Bridgers, Dayglow, etc.
