Sometimes, musical geniuses just have to play the drums. That’s what Jack White does in his brand new band, the Dead Weather, who played their debut gig at the Nashville offices of White’s label, Third Man Records (he also contributes vocals).

That’s what Jack White does in his brand new band, the Dead Weather, who played their debut gig at the Nashville offices of White’s label, Third Man Records (he also contributes vocals).
The rest of the group? Alison Mosshart of The Kills, Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age and Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs provide vocals, drums, and bass, respectively.
“The idea was to do a 7-inch single and be done with it, but we started writing songs and something happened,” White told the Associated Press.
The new band plaid an intimate gig for 150 people, including Meg White, Sheryl Crow, and Martina McBride. The Dead Weather handed out hand-painted 7-inches, pimping the new single “Hang You From the Heavens,” backed with a cover of Gary Numan’s “Are Friends Electric?”

According to Rolling Stone, the Dead Weather will release their debut album, Horehound, in June.
