On January 22, director Joe Berlinger will debut “Under African Skies”, a film documenting the creation, controversy, and influence of Paul Simon’s legendary Graceland, at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The airing of the documentary will commemorate the 25th anniversary of Simon’s musical achievement. After its Sundance premiere, the documentary will be screened at international film festivals, limited theaters, and on A&E.
Joe Berlinger (“Brother’s Keeper, “Metallica: Some Kind of Monster”) documents the unique creation of Graceland, including the controversy created when Simon traveled to South Africa to record with local artists. Berlinger also portrays the lasting influence of the grammy-winning album, including interviews with musical legends such as Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte, Paul McCartney, and numerous others. Overall, “Under African Skies” gives a fresh, revelatory perspective on Graceland.

In addition, Spring 2012 marks the release of Graceland 25th Anniversary Commemorative Edition Deluxe Collector’s Box Set, as well as a special two-disc set featuring the original album, bonus tracks, and a special director’s cut of “Under African Skies”.
“In many ways, Graceland was the most extraordinary experience in my entire career…,” notes Simon. “The insight into rhythm was the great gift that I received from making the trip to South Africa, and collaborating with African musicians.”
