Peter Bjorn and John Prep “Drunken” New Album

Acclaimed Swedish indie pop band Peter Bjorn and John is set to release their sixth studio album on March 29 on StarTime International. The still-unnamed record follows 2009’s Living Thing.

“We originally planned to make a punk rock album, but listening to it now it’s definitely a pop rock album. But it sounds more punk rock when we play the songs live!” drummer John Eriksson told Spin. “We’ve sort gone back to the beginning.”

The new album features the group keeping its creative process fresh by using an outside producer for the first time. “He made us drink more,” said Eriksson of working with veteran Per Sunding. “A lot of the final cuts were the drunken versions.”

In the interim, the group members have stayed busy with individual pursuits. Eriksson has been releasing solo material under the name Hortlax Cobra and playing in another band, Holiday for Strings. Frontman Peter Morén released two solo albums, one in English and one in Swedish. Bassist/keyboardist Bjorn Yttling has become an accomplished producer, most recently on Lykke Li’s forthcoming sophomore album Wounded Rhymes and the Suzan’s debut Golden Week for the Poco Poco Beat.

The band has been soliciting ideas for album titles via Twitter.
