Record Store Day Exclusive Releases We Can’t Wait to Get Our Hands On
Blur — The Magic Whip
This reissue of Blur’s 2015 album The Magic Whip is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary. It includes new sleeve art and a picture disc, which is when a pattern is printed on the vinyl itself. As the record turns, it creates a trippy effect or an image. This pressing features a zoetrope pattern instead of a simple still image. The Magic Whip was Blur’s first album in 12 years at the time, with their previous album being Think Tank from 2003. It was also special because this album marked the return of the band’s original lineup for the first time in 16 years. This new limited edition of The Magic Whip is sure to delight Blur fans everywhere.
The Cure — The Head On the Door (Picture Disc)
It’s been 40 years of The Head On the Door, and Record Store Day is reissuing a special version of The Cure’s sixth album. Like The Magic Whip, this will also be a picture disc. However, where Blur’s reissue is a zoetrope, The Cure’s is a still image. This is the first time The Head On the Door will be on a picture disc, though. There are many fan favorite songs here as well, like “Push” and “A Night Like This,” so any fan of The Cure should remember this release for later.
Fleetwood Mac — Fleetwood Mac
50 years later, Record Store Day is releasing a special edition of Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 self-titled album. The picture disc features artwork on both sides, including an image of the entire group. This is the album that a featured songs like “Landslide” and “Rhiannon,” and is a staple for any Fleetwood Mac fan.
Post Malone — Post Malone Tribute to Nirvana
Record Store Day Ambassador Post Malone is releasing a collection of Nirvana covers that he performed during a livestream. The album comes on a limited edition yellow vinyl and all proceeds go to MusiCares addiction recovery and mental health funds. There are 14 tracks total, including “Come As You Are,” “Heart Shaped Box,” and “Lithium.” Be sure to grab this album not only because it’s cool (Post Malone + Nirvana certainly wasn’t something on our bingo card this year) but also because it supports a great cause.
Talking Heads — Live on Tour
This recording of a Talking Heads show in Cleveland from 1978 is a new Record Store Day exclusive, following in the footsteps of last year’s Talking Heads Record Store Day exclusive, Live at WCOZ 77. It was recorded during the More Songs About Buildings and Food Tour and used for a radio station promo in 1979. This is the first time the recording will be commercially available, so Talking Heads fans should make note.
The Wombats — Glitterbug (10th Anniversary)
The Wombats are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their third album, Glitterbug, with a Record Store Day exclusive release. It will be 10 years almost to the day, as the album was released on April 13, 2015. Additionally, this new Glitterbug features a zoetrope picture disc which will add a touch of visual whimsy to songs like “Greek Tragedy,” “Give Me A Try,” and “Be Your Shadow.”
