King began his career as a member of singing group The Drifters in the late 1950s, with whom he recorded songs like “Save The Last Dance For Me” and “There Goes My Baby.” He left the group in the early ’60s to embark on a solo career and found success with top 10 hit “Stand By Me,” one of the most iconic love songs of all time.
