Steve Earle loves the late singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt so much, he even named his son (Justin Townes) after him.

On May 12th, Earle will release Townes, a tribute album to the country great, via New West Records. The album features guest spots from Justin (marking the first time the two have teamed on record) and Earle’s wife Allison Moorer, as well as Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello.

Earle and Van Zandt first met in 1972, when Van Zandt heckled the future “Hardcore Troubadour” during a show.

In the album’s press release, Earle said “This may be one of the best records I’ve ever made. That hurts a singer-songwriter’s feelings. Then again, it’s some consolation that I cherry picked through the career of one of the best songwriters that ever lived.”
