By now you’re probably well aware that North Carolina’s Avett Brothers are at it again, gearing up for the September 29th release of I and Love and You. In the form of a powerful piano ballad, the forthcoming effort’s title track is full of the raw emotion and folky harmonies that the bros are known for.
“Tell the ones that need to know/we are headed north,” the boys sing in what sounds like some sort of goodbye note to the South. “Oh Brooklyn, Brooklyn, take me in/Are you aware the shape I’m in?” they continue, as strings join soft harmonies, alongside brushed drums.
According to Spinner, the song was inspired by a show the band did at Brooklyn’s Galapagos venue. “It was the coolest place we’d ever been, and the furthest from home we’d ever been in every sense,” says Seth. Though the track may take on a “New York State of Mind,” the brothers’ musical roots have certainly not been set aside. If the Rick Rubin-produced track is any indication as to the rest of the effort’s sound, it should be one fine record indeed.
