The 70s Classic Rock Supergroup We’d Want To See (If We Could)

Throughout the history of rock music, there have been a number of great supergroups. From the Traveling Wilburys with names like Bob Dylan and Tom Petty to Temple of the Dog with grunge stars like Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell, when the biggest artists in music get together to make songs, often the result becomes part of the canon.

But despite all this, there are supergroups we wish existed but never did. If you could wave a wand, who would you want to see get together? What big names do you think could collaborate and create songs for the ages? Below, we had an idea for a supergroup for the 1970s. Indeed, this is the 70s classic rock supergroup we’d want to see if we could.

Co-Lead Singer: Ozzy Osbourne

The eerie, banshee-voiced lead vocalist for Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, had a wicked stage presence. And he was also an incredible artist and performer. His voice soared like a legion of bats through the air, filling a stadium or arena with sonic spells. Can you imagine him taking a break from Sabbath in the 70s to start up a few recording sessions and live shows with this supergroup? Ozzy bringing his black magic to the stage with these other incredible artists would be almost too much to consider.

Co-Lead Singer: David Bowie

Singing side by side with Osbourne in our imagined supergroup would be David Bowie. Bringing some glam and fashion to the Prince of Darkness’ demeanor is necessary in our lineup, and Bowie would do just that. He would harmonize with Osbourne and then break out on his own for some of his signature style. Bowie famously collaborated with a number of big-name artists in his career, from Iggy Pop to Queen, so he would be at home in these ranks. Bowie and Ozzy together? Chef’s kiss.

Backing Band: Fleetwood Mac

Of course, you can just have lead singers on stage without a backing band. That’s where Fleetwood Mac comes in. While they have their own stable of singers, we think that they would take this opportunity to rest their vocal cords and watch Ozzy and Bowie do their thing. But with Mick Fleetwood and company managing the drums, bass, guitars, keys, and everything else, we think we would have a supergroup that would go down in history as maybe the most significant band of the decade. If only dreams could become reality…
