THE BRAKES > Tale of Two Cities

Taking its title from a two-city residency The Brakes did in April and May of 2007, Tale of Two Cities takes an unconventional route to create a fairly ordinary live album. Pieced together from the best moments of shows at the Knitting Factory in New York City and at Milkboy in their Philadelphia hometown, the classic rock-inspired quartet is a thoroughly polished live unit, tossing off laidback bar band grooves and soulful licks with an effortlessness that belies the fact that their eldest member is 23 years old.Label: HYENA

Taking its title from a two-city residency The Brakes did in April and May of 2007, Tale of Two Cities takes an unconventional route to create a fairly ordinary live album. Pieced together from the best moments of shows at the Knitting Factory in New York City and at Milkboy in their Philadelphia hometown, the classic rock-inspired quartet is a thoroughly polished live unit, tossing off laidback bar band grooves and soulful licks with an effortlessness that belies the fact that their eldest member is 23 years old. Mixing the Band’s shaggy country boogies with the twin guitar leads of the Allman Brothers and the over-the-counter blues of John Mayer, their sound is familiar (and not particularly adventurous) but obviously a crowd pleaser.
