When you take away the glitz, the glamour, the fame, and the fortune, George Jones and Waylon Jennings are just two dudes. Two dudes who like good ole fashioned barroom camaraderie and an occasional troublemaking time. That being so, when these musicians were neighbors with each other once upon a time, they seemingly did just that. Although, there was one night that maybe, just maybe, got a bit out of hand. Out of hand in a fairly hilarious fashion, that is.

It is common knowledge that both Jennings and Jones had their issues with drugs and alcohol. Though, before the two got sober and were kicking and partying in their prime, they shared a humorous altercation in Jenning’s residence. An altercation that would end with George Jones hogtied on the floor.
When George Jones Knocked on Waylon Jennings’ Door
In an episode of the George Jones Show, Waylon Jennings shared the full story behind their altercation. He started out by saying, “We were very normal neighbors and very normal people” and “George came to see me one time and he wasn’t really sure who I was.” “He came in about four sheets to the wind and I had been up for about four to five days, so it was the blind leading the blind,” added Jennings.
Subsequently, Jones, who was intoxicated, came into Jennings’ home and started to act rambunctiously, to say the least. Matter of fact, he was acting so rambunctiously that Waylon Jennings had to step in and make sure he didn’t do any more damage to his home. Jennings recalled, “I had to sit on him” and “Here I am, one of the heroes of my life, and I’m having to sit down on him and hold him down or he’s going to tear me and my house up.”
“This is why they call him possum, as I turn loose of him I say, ‘George, you alright,’” stated Jennings. Well, George Jones was not, as right after Jennings let him go, Jones punched him square in the face. Following Jones’ landed blow, Waylon Jennings tied up George Jones with a belt. During this altercation, Jones had managed to break somebody’s thumb and make a mess of Jenning’s place. Though, that’s the music business, and in retrospect both these musicians look fondly at that altercation as an invaluable piece of nostalgia. Even if it was a sign about their issues with drugs & alcohol.
