The Jayhawks Announce New Tour Dates

Videos by American Songwriter

Alt-country icons The Jayhawks have announced a new slew of dates in support of their critically acclaimed comeback album, Mockingbird Time. Last year saw the original lineup, including returning member Mark Olson, perform onstage for the first timeĀ  in 15 years. The new tour will take them from Colorado to Germany, and end with a performance at the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California in April.

ā€œThe difference from then and now is that Mark and I have both experienced different kinds of music and expanded our palates,” says Jayhawks’ guitarist/vocalist Gary Louris of Mockingbird Time. “So this record has moments of experimentation and a bit of worldliness. I like a well-crafted, in-and-out kind of song, but with Mark, the lyrics dictate the music, and heā€™ll go off into interesting, asymmetrical compositions. So itā€™s a nice balance. Certain things were meant to beā€”like peanut butter and jellyā€”and Mark and I just work well together. And having done a lot of co-writing during the last six or seven years, Iā€™m more appreciative of the magic that we have together. That doesnā€™t come along very often for anybody.ā€
