The Reason Why Carrie Underwood Still Drives the Car She Won on ‘American Idol’

Carrie Underwood’s return to American Idol does not just entail a paycheck. It also seemingly gives her the chance to gift contestants the opportunities and memories the show once gave her many moons ago. Leading up to this season, Underwood has been very sentimental about her return to the show by recollecting her American Idol memories and what it did for her career. Though, one memory and prize she’s been fairly quiet about is the blue Ford Mustang she won after the show.

In addition to garnering the glitz and glory and the fame and the fortune from her American Idol win, Underwood also walked away with a Ford Mustang. Even though the win and everything it entails was surely enough for her alone, the car isn’t a bad extra. Other than its practical purpose, it also serves as a sentimental symbol for Underwood. To her, that car isn’t just a car, but it’s also a memento to her career arc.

The Sentimental Value Behind Carrie Underwood’s Blue Mustang

When Underwood sat down for an interview with Today’s Country Radio, she spoke about the general importance of American Idol. Of course, Underwood has a lot to show for her success, as she has won several Grammy Awards, numerous CMAs, and has several No. 1 hits. However, her blue Mustang is the trophy that tells it all.

Underwood told the radio station, “I do still have the car that I won when I won American Idol. So I have my blue Mustang. And every once in a while, something will happen where I’ll have my [other] car getting serviced or whatever, and I’ll get to drive [the Mustang].”

“And it always makes me want to drive it more because it was such a pivotal point in my life. That was the car that I was driving around when I first moved to Tennessee, and I’m very, very glad I still have that car.” “Every time I get in it, I’m always like, ‘Why don’t I just drive this more often?’ just because it makes me feel good,” Underwood concluded.

Regardless of whether you bought it yourself or were gifted it, everyone remembers their first car. Now, this wasn’t Underwood’s first car, but in a way it was. It was, given that it seemed to be the object symbolizing her hard launch into a completely unfamiliar life. Arguably, a new life entirely.
