The Strokes have plans to get together in 2009, which may put an end to a hiatus that began after their tour in support of 2006 release First Impressions of Earth.
According to drummer Fabrizio Moretti, the quintet has talked about “plans of meeting up…in February [to] kind of start noodling around and stuff.” A new album and more touring, is likely to follow.
Moretti maintains that the five Strokes are “all pals” and their relationships are good, but he did voice some doubts about the band actually pulling off a reunion. “I never had anything to base that anxiety on, but it crossed my mind,” he confesses. “We all kinda knew we were just taking a bit of a break.”
In other news, Moretti is about to go on tour in support of the newly released debut album of his new band Little Joy, which he formed with girlfriend Binki Shapiro and Rodrigo Amarante of Brazil’s Los Hermanos. Their new album features guest appearances by The Strokes’ Nick Valensi, Devandra Banhart, and the Moldy Peaches’ Adam Green. According to Morreti, the upcoming tour will include covers, unreleased Little Joy songs, and other guest musicians.
“I think this is not a side project,” said Moretti of his new group. “This would’ve been a side project had it been solely my songs and I was singing and I hired these guys. But it’s really a band that evolved into an honest kind of three-part beast, I guess you can say. And I would like to continue with it, even when I go back to The Strokes.”
