Earning a wider re-release after wowing the Seattle club circuit last year with the energetic abandon of his live shows, up-and-comer Scott Reitherman’s creative outlet Throw Me The Statue takes the concept of the bedroom artist to fresh places with his debut Moonbeams. Far from the tender-kid-with-a-guitar concept that has typecast the genre, TMTS’s all-embracing spasticity squeezes cuddly, garage-sale Casio blips and lovable pop out of tracks like “Lolita,” skittering drum breaks on “About To Walk” and the Shins’ ether-light milieu for “Conquering Kids.” Whatever Reitherman may lack in vocal range, which may be the album’s only weakness, is made up for by Moonbeams’ home-baked invention on its frenzied early half that, as if growing more comfortable in its own muted temper as the songs progress, sobers down to a soft finish for the closing tracks. Don’t you dare overlook this one.
