TV on the Radio’s Malone Reveals Details for “Rain Machine”

TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone has dropped details of his new solo project, Rain Machine.  Rain Machine’s self-titled debut will hit shelves September 22 via Anti-. Ian Brennan (Jonathan Richman, Lucinda Williams) produced the album, which Malone described in a press release as “a variety of emotions and situations real and imagined, some rhythm and some rhyme.”

The cover art, which Malone drew himself, features two topless women riding lions through rainbows and waterfalls. Insert “make it rain” joke here.

Rain Machine is not the first time Malone has ventured outside of TVOTR– he’s also released three albums with experimental rock band Iran. As for why Malone decided it was time to go solo, he says in the press release:

“I’ve been writing and recording songs alone since I moved to NYC in 2000, at first alone because I didn’t know anyone, then through the years by choice because of a particular freedom that going it alone afforded. I’ve played regularly since then, at first under the name Black Lights until some kids in Texas told me they were already using that name. Then under my own name, but I didn’t like how ‘Kyp Malone’ looked on mock ups of T-shirts and fliers, thus Rain Machine.”

Both Iran and TV on the Radio will be touring throughout the summer and early fall.
