Two Stories That Prove Jimmy Buffett Was an All-Around Nice Guy

Jimmy Buffett will always be known for his music and the island culture he celebrated. However, the man’s life was outlined by far richer sentiments of selflessness, kindness, and unwavering hospitality. He preached about such topics in his music. However, those lovely traits prevailed off the page and existed in real time. Jimmy Buffett was the very person he appeared to be. He was the epitome of a genuine character.

Given Buffett’s authenticity, many musicians have attested to the man’s character and animated disposition. Following his death in 2023, a handful of musicians divulged their one-of-a-kind Jimmy Buffett stories. At their most essential point, they articulate how Buffett always knew what was most important about this life and how it would make the next one all the better.

Paul McCartney’s Custom Left-Handed Guitar

Paul McCartney and Jimmy Buffet hardly worked together during their careers. However, McCartney did play bass for Buffet on “My Gummie Just Kicked In”. McCartney did not advertise his presence too loudly. That being said, the two’s relationship mainly existed in a personal nature and was not tainted by the public eye. Consequently, McCartney called Buffet “one great man.”

“I was on holiday with him and I forgot to bring my guitar,” McCartney recalled to People. “So he had his own guitar strung left-handed for me… And then the next time I saw him, he’d had one custom made left-handed for me.”

McCartney also took to X and wrote of Buffett: “He had a most amazing lust for life and a beautiful sense of humor. So many of us will miss Jimmy and his tremendous personality. His love for us all, and for mankind as a whole.”

Jimmy Buffett Plucked Sheryl Crow From Obscurity

If not for Jimmy Buffett’s need for a backup singer and his willingness to take a chance on a newbie artist, Sheryl Crow might have never gotten her start.

“I was hired by Jimmy Buffett,” the singer stated at the Keep The Party Going: A Tribute To Jimmy Buffett concert. “I was absolutely a nobody. And I got to sing backup on ‘Off To See The Lizard’.”

Crow had quite the entry story to go along with her introduction to Buffett. However, her comments regarding Buffett perfectly define the man’s contagious charisma.

“I will tell you, he is for me the most beautiful illustration of what it means to be alive and awake and absolutely present in every moment,” Crow said.
