As reported in The Tennessean, businessmen and ‘70s songwriters are gearing up to cash in on a change made with the Copyright Act of 1976. The change, which frees up the publishing rights granted in 1978, allows artists to recapture their songs’ rights after 35 years. That means writers like Jim Peterik, member of the band Survivor and co-writer of “Eye of the Tiger,” have the opportunity to make the money they deserve off those songs that never seem to go away.
