Tons of musicians are jumping on the Chappell Roan bandwagon, including unlikely contemporaries like Rick Astley. The singer, best known for his viral hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” that became a massive internet meme years ago, recently took to his YouTube page to debut a cover of Roan’s hit song, “Pink Pony Club”.

It’s a simple but gorgeous cover, featuring Astley sitting in his studio with only an acoustic guitar. Shortly before the climax of the song, Astley puts on a colorful cowboy hat before finishing the cover with his rich baritone vocal style. You can watch Rick Astley’s rendition of “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan below:
On Facebook, Astley said that he loved the tune in question.
This wouldn’t be the first time Astley has taken on an unconventional cover, either. He also made waves back in the day for covering Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” and “Better Now” by Post Malone. In recent years, the singer also performed a number of songs by The Smiths with the band Blossoms at Glastonbury in 2023.
English Musicians Are Loving Chappell Roan At The Moment
There’s a good chance that English crooner Rick Astley took a cue from fellow English musician Elton John, who performed Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” at his Oscars party (and AIDS Foundation benefit show) on Sunday night. In fact, John and Roan have developed quite a sweet friendship in recent months.
Ahead of his performance, John said that he admired Roan greatly and even said that he “freaked out” when he first heard her music.
“I immediately wanted to get her on the program, and she came on the program, and I interviewed her, and I fell in love with her, and I fell in love with the album,” John continued before diving into his performance of “Pink Pony Club”. “I’ve continued to be her friend hopefully and speak to her quite a lot.”
The program in question is likely Elton John’s Rocket Hour, considering he interviewed Roan on the program last year.
Roan soon joined him onstage for the duet at the Oscars afterparty, and she also performed “Femininomenon” as well. Roan also took the time to thank her parents from the stage for “introducing” her to Elton John’s music.
