3 Famous Rock Songs With Sequels

Rock music isnโ€™t always about storytelling. But when it is, the stories those incredible songs tell are quite engaging and fascinating. Unless youโ€™re a diehard classic rock fan, you might not know that the stories and compositions behind the following three classic rock songs actually have sequels that continue with their themes. Letโ€™s take a look! One of these might actually surprise you.

The โ€˜Abbey Roadโ€™ Medley

The Beatlesโ€™ second-to-last album Abbey Road is a truly incredible piece of work. Naturally, the whole album was lauded and praised by critics after it was released in 1969. Songs like โ€œHere Comes The Sunโ€ and โ€œCome Togetherโ€ are still beloved songs to this day. Those tracks, along with โ€œSomethingโ€, were highlights of the record that made it commercially viable. However, not everyone might know that the second side of the album features a medley of songs that are technically all one big song.

After โ€œYou Never Give Me Your Moneyโ€ ends, thereโ€™s not actually any hard cut-off to the song. Rather, the songs essentially weave into each other without a break. The sequels to โ€œYou Never Give Me Your Moneyโ€ include โ€œSun Kingโ€, โ€œMean Mr. Mustardโ€, โ€œPolythene Pamโ€, โ€œShe Came In Through The Bathroom Windowโ€ (famously written about a fan that broke into Paul McCartneyโ€™s house), โ€œGolden Slumbersโ€, โ€œCarry That Weightโ€, โ€œThe Endโ€, and the hidden track โ€œHer Majestyโ€, in that order.

โ€œSweet Thingโ€ by David Bowie

Did you know that โ€œSweet Thingโ€ by David Bowie has its own sequel? โ€œSweet Thingโ€ is a standout track from Bowieโ€™s 1974 record Diamond Dogs.

Itโ€™s a shame that this album is mainly remembered for โ€œRebel Rebelโ€, considering the beautifully orchestrated three-part medley that takes place on the album. The medley starts with โ€œSweet Thingโ€, followed by โ€œCandidateโ€, then โ€œSweet Thing (Reprise)โ€.

โ€œAnother Brick In The Wallโ€ by Pink Floyd

This entry on our list of rock songs with sequels is quite well-known, but I think itโ€™s worth revisiting. โ€œAnother Brick In The Wallโ€ comes from Pink Floydโ€™s famed concept record The Wall from 1979. โ€œAnother Brick In The Wall, Part 2โ€ is the sequel to the song, and the sequel ended up becoming the bandโ€™s only no. 1 hit in the US and UK. Another song follows to form a trio, titled โ€œThe Happiest Days Of Our Livesโ€.
