3 Karaoke Scenes in Movies That Feature Classic Songs

1. When Harry Met Sally

This iconic scene in When Harry Met Sally features the classic show tune “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top.” Billy Crystal’s Harry makes quick work of this Oklahoma! cut without sacrificing his comedic edge. There are many things we wouldn’t want our exes to catch us doing, but singing karaoke in the middle of a crowded store is on top of that list.

Chicks and ducks and geese better scurry
When I take you out in the surrey
When I take you out in the surrey with the fringe on top
Watch the fringe and see how it flutters
When I drive them high steppin’ strutters

2. The Cable Guy

Jim Carrey is his usual, over-the-top self in this scene from The Cable Guy. While singing Jefferson Starship’s “Somebody to Love,” Carrey delights his crowd. He delivers some warbly, weird vocals in line with the psychedelic era.

When the truth is found to be lies
And all the joy within you dies
Don’t you want somebody to love
Don’t you need somebody to love
Wouldn’t you love somebody to love
You better find somebody to love

3. 27 Dresses

Though it’s not karaoke in the traditional sense, this scene from 27 Dresses is beloved and infectious. It doesn’t hurt that it features one of the biggest rock hits of all time, “Bennie And The Jets.” With lowered inhibitions, the two main characters get the entire bar to sing along with them.

Say, Candy and Ronnie, have you seen them yet
Oh, but they’re so spaced out,
Bennie and the Jets
Oh, but they’re weird and they’re wonderful
Oh, Bennie, she’s really keen
She’s got electric boots, a mohair suit
You know I read it in a magazine, oh, yeah
Bennie and the Jets
