3 One-Hit Wonders From the 1960s You Already Have Memorized

Sometimes it feels like we’re born with certain things just in our minds. An image of George Washington, perhaps, or maybe some sense that Tom Cruise is a movie star. Even some songs are burned into our psyches from an early age. And even if you weren’t around when they originally came out, certain songs just feel like they’re tattooed on the brain.

Here below, we wanted to highlight three such examples. Let’s look at just three songs from the 1960s that we all just have memorized for whatever reason. Indeed, these are three one-hit wonders from the decade that we all know by heart, whether we chose to or not!

“Who Put The Bomp (In The Bomp, Bomp, Bomp)” by Barry Mann from ‘Who Put The Bomp’ (1961)

Whether or not you know this wack song word for word, you certainly know the feel of it. The track, which was released by Barry Mann in 1961, is almost a tongue-twister. But we bet dollars to doughnuts that you know there is a “rama lama ding dong” involved. Not only that, but there’s a “dip da dip da dip” involved, too. Now give the offering a listen and see just how many words you know without ever really remembering a time when you even heard the song all the way through in one sitting.

“Monster Mash” by Bobby Pickett from ‘The Original Monster Mash’ (1962)

Every October 31st (and even for the weeks leading up to then), this song comes around and sticks in your head like candy corn does your teeth. Indeed, it’s the quintessential Halloween song, and therefore, it’s one we’ve heard from a young age. It’s often used in TV commercials, shows, and movies around the holiday, and if that’s not where you absorbed it unintentionally, then you just heard it on the radio, and it became one with your psyche.

“Angel Of The Morning” by Merrilee Rush & The Turnabouts from ‘Angel Of The Morning’ (1968)

This is a song that has been covered by many artists over time. “Angel Of The Morning” rose to fame thanks to the big-voiced Seattle-born singer Merrilee Rush. The tune, which is both beautiful and sexually empowering, has a chorus that we’re seemingly born with in our brains. It’s like the doctors add it to the measles vaccines that they give all babies soon after birth. There’s a reason so many folks have recorded their own renditions of this song. They probably didn’t even have to learn the song; they already had it on the tips of their tongues!
