4 One-Hit Wonders That Have Aged Surprisingly Well

Lots of one-hit wonders haven’t exactly aged well. Either their sound has become outdated, or their lyrics are a bit on the cringey side. It happens. However, some one-hit wonders have actually aged surprisingly well through the years, and plenty of fans (young and old!) still enjoy them today. Let’s take a gander at a few examples, shall we?

1. “Flagpole Sitta” by Harvey Danger

Power pop comes back in style on the regular, but the genre’s heyday was definitely in the mid-to-late 1990s. One of our favorite power pop post-grunge one-hit wonders that aged quite well has to be the 1998 hit “Flagpole Sitta” by Harvey Danger.

This song has an almost 1960s element to it, and that just makes it all the more timeless. Even if you weren’t around when this song hit no. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100, you probably at least know the line “I’m not sick, but I’m not well.”

2. “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus

This one-hit wonder got a breath of new life when it made the rounds on TikTok in 2024. “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus was released in 2000 and is still a pop-rock joy to listen to today. If you’ve ever experienced teenage angst in any capacity, you’ll relate to this absolute bop of a one-hit wonder.

3. “Video Killed The Radio Star” by The Buggles

Out of all the one-hit wonders that aged well out there, “Video Killed The Radio Star” by The Buggles has aged well despite being about a very particular time in pop culture. Released in 1979, this new wave hit is all about attitudes toward mid-20th-century technological changes in music, media, and culture.

4. “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” by Procol Harum

This is the oldest song on our list, and it’s a very well-aged psychedelic pop-rock tune for the ages. “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” by Procol Harum was released in 1967 and managed to hit no. 5 on the Hot 100 without much in the way of promotion.

It’s a classic anthem of the Summer of Love, and is also still considered one of the most commercially successful single tracks in history. It’s been covered by the likes of Annie Lennox, The Hesitations, and hundreds more.
