Bruce Springsteen has been announced as the keynote speaker for next year’s South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Springsteen’s address, which will take place on March 15, 2012, will be open to Music and Platinum registrants, and registered showcasing artists. Past keynote speakers include Johnny Cash, Robert Plant, and Neil Young. On January 1, Tamu Press will release I’ll Be Here in the Morning: The Songwriting Legacy of Townes Van Zandt, a new book from American Songwriter contributor Brian T. Atkinson, which includes lyrical analysis of the late artist’s work by fans and friends like Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, Kris Kristofferson, Lyle Lovett and Lucinda Williams. My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, The Avett Brothers’ Scott Avett, Grace Potter, Josh Ritter and Kasey Chambers are also interviewed. A new website, Towneslegacy.com, has been created to promote the book.
Gillian Welch’s long-awaited comeback album The Harrow & The Harvest has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album. She faces stiff competition from Eddie Vedder, Steve Earle, Fleet Foxes, and Welch devotees The Civil Wars.
