Spring is approaching soon and love is already in the air. If you’re planning on tying the knot soon, putting together a solid wedding playlist is probably not at the forefront of your mind, all things considered. We’ll help you out with our four favorite songs for weddings from the 1980s and 1970s eras of one-hit wonders!

1. “I Melt With You” by Modern English

These new wave icons surprisingly only had one Top 10 international hit: “I Melt With You” from 1982. We get it, though. It’s a wonderful song from a wonderful era of post-punk music. Modern English managed to do fairly well with the follow-up hit “Hands Across The Sea”, but “I Melt With You” was the only single of theirs to make it to no. 7 on the Billboard US rock charts.

2. “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers

A ton of one-hit wonders made waves throughout the 80s, but few are as memorable as The Proclaimers and their solitary 1988 hit, “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”. It makes sense why this decades-old tune is still a staple at weddings today. It’s a cute and playful love song about devotion that doesn’t get too serious but manages to be heartwarming nonetheless.

3. “It’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls

You’ve likely heard this 1983 post-disco hit at weddings where the bride and/or groom have a pretty good sense of humor; it’s one of the most danceable one-hit wonders out there, after all. “It’s Raining Men” is a dancefloor classic that is still quite loved today, and we can’t wrap our heads around why The Weather Girls never made it beyond this solitary hit.

“It’s Raining Men” made it to no. 1 on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart and no. 46 on the Hot 100. They had a few songs chart decently in the years that followed, but none were as massively popular as “It’s Raining Men”.

4. “Lovin’ You” by Minnie Riperton

It’s still wild to think that the incomparable Minnie Riperton is technically a one-hit wonder. Few musicians had a voice or songwriting prowess quite like she did in the 1970s. Riperton had quite a few songs that charted well on the US R&B charts, but “Lovin’ You” was the only song of hers to hit no. 1 on the Hot 100. Out of all the one-hit wonders from the 70s that are still floating around today, none warm one’s heart quite like “Lovin’ You”. Few one-hit wonders are as well-suited for weddings as this one.
