Alright, I don’t hate country music. It’s simply the kind of genre that I don’t listen to often. When I do, I’m usually putting on records from the greats of the outlaw country movement, like Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash. Still, I wouldn’t call myself a country music lover. That is, until I heard the following four amazing country songs. Let’s take a look! You might just get converted, too.

“Dogwood” by Whiskey Myers
Are you a fan of blues music, but never quite made the step into country music? If that’s the case, you might just enjoy the musical stylings of Whiskey Myers. Specifically, the song “Dogwood” is a great country gem with some emotional blues elements. It’s far from a sappy country song, though. There’s a rock and roll sensibility there, and it’s far from overproduced. You might just fall in love with this track!
“Mama’s Broken Heart” by Miranda Lambert
I personally think that a lot of Miranda Lambert’s early-career country songs converted pop music and rock music fans into country music listeners. Her work is accessible, relatable, and was exactly what was needed to bridge the gap from country to pop in the 2000s. A great later-career song from Lambert that might just turn you into a country music lover is “Mama’s Broken Heart”, a witty and sarcastic little romp that has all the right elements of a Lambert tune. The music video is also quite delightful. Women who have struggled to relate to country music might just find some appeal in this song.
“‘80s Mercedes” by Maren Morris
Country star Maren Morris has been having a very good few years, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she blew up even more in the coming years. Her music is very much country, but with enough of a pop vibe that anyone out there would enjoy what she puts out. If you’re the kind of music listener who sticks to Top 40 pop (no judgment here), you might just love the song “‘80s Mercedes”.
“Snapback” by Old Dominion
Are you a fan of nostalgia? Maybe you prefer the kind of rock and pop music that came out in the 1980s? If that’s the case, there’s a ton of country music from the 80s that might interest you. But if you’ve mulled over the works of Alabama and Kenny Rogers and found nothing that stuck, you might just find fresh interest in Old Dominion. In fact, I think the synth-soaked country song (what a combination!) “Snapback” might turn you into a country music lover.
