Summer time is great for many things, but it’s a particularly great backdrop for romance. It might not produce the most long-lasting relationships of all time, but nothing beats a good summer fling. Country music has discussed this phenomenon at length. Find four of our favorite summer fling country songs, below.

“I Don’t Want This Night To End” (Luke Bryan)
Though Luke Bryan doesn’t say anything specific about summertime in “I Don’t Want This Night To End”, it’s hard to imagine the scenario in the lyrics taking place in any other season–partly because the musicality of this song is tailor-made for a warm summer night. Bryan finds himself amid a whirlwind romance with a girl he’s just met in this summer country song. Girl, I know I don’t know you / But your pretty little eyes so blue / Are pullin’ me in / Like the moon on your skin, Bryan sings in this hypnotizing track. He doesn’t know what tomorrow may bring, but while he’s got her tonight, he wants to make the most of it.
“See You Next Summer” (Brian Kelley)
Everybody’s favorite beach cowboy has a song that is the perfect summation of summertime and new love: “See You Next Summer”. We’ve had one hell of a time, but our time is runnin’ out / You’re about to head back north, I’m ’bout to head back west / But I gotta get this off / My sunburned chest, Kelley sings, speaking to his summer fling partner.
Though they are about to part ways and summer is fading, he wants to stay in tough. Many know the feeling–trying to hold on to something fleeting. But, it’s hard to say goodbye when the sun is shining just right and what’s happening between two people feels like love.
“Watermelon Moonshine” (Lainey Wilson)
Inspired by another worthy entry on this list, “Strawberry Wine”, Lainey Wilson recounts her first brush with summer love in the runaway country song “Watermelon Moonshine”. It was right after senior year / Just before the summer disappeared, she sings at the start of her youthful tale. Like any good summer romance, things happen fast. Blushing flirtations soon turn into something more. Too young to know what love was / But we werе learnin’ on a sweet buzz, she sings, dosing her listeners with a welcomed wave of nostalgia.
“Summertime” (Kenny Chesney)
Kenny Chesney’s “Summertime” is rife with sun-soaked visuals. We couldn’t expect anything less from our favorite beach bum country singer. This country song is set during the first few days of summer. Everyone is gearing up to revel in what three months on uninterrupted sun have to offer. For Chesney, his plans involve a little bit of romance. It’s two bare feet on the dashboard / Young love and an old Ford / Cheap shades and a tattoo / And a Yoo-Hoo bottle on the floorboard, Chesney sings in the chorus.
Though we don’t get much information about the relationship in this Chesney classic, it’s safe to assume it’s little more than a summer fling. It has got just the right mix of urgency and fervor.
