Even one-hit wonders don’t get very much longevity out of their sole claims to fame. It’s a shame, but that’s how the music industry works. Listeners often have short attention spans. So, if you forgot about any of the following one-hit wonders from the 2000s, I won’t judge you. A few of them surprised me, too. Let’s take a look!
Videos by American Songwriter
“My Baby” by Lil’ Romeo
You might remember this 2001 song from the Jackson 5 sample it utilizes, specifically “I Want You Back”. The song also features Ms Peaches. “My Baby” was a pretty big pop rap track that made it all the way to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lil’ Romeo was not even a teenager yet, and he managed to produce his sole career hit with this song. A few follow-up tracks made it to the R&B chart, but none of his other songs even touched the Hot 100 after “My Baby”.
“Wait For You” by Elliott Yamin
Remember Elliott Yamin? This singer is a former American Idol contestant who made it to third place on the series’ fifth season. He’s quite the singer/songwriter, but for some reason, he just didn’t take off after the show. This likely doesn’t have anything to do with talent, either. The vast majority of Idol contestants seem to fade into obscurity after their seasons wrap up.
Still, “Wait For You” from 2006 was a pretty solid hit. It’s still Yamin’s only tune to make it to the Hot 100, where it peaked at No. 13.
“Crazy For This Girl” by Evan And Jaron
If you’ve ever gone grocery shopping in your life, you’ve definitely heard this song play over the intercom of your local big-chain grocery store. However, before it became a standard for shopping-meets-easy-listening, “Crazy For This Girl” by Evan And Jaron was a pretty big hit in the mainstream.
This pop-rock duo made it big with the song in 2000, when it reached No. 15 on the Hot 100 and charted even higher elsewhere. Sadly, these two crooners never had nearly as big a hit again.
“Pictures Of You” by The Last Goodnight
This entry on our list of one-hit wonders everyone forgot about still surprises me. The Last Goodbye basically released one solid and decent album before disappearing from the face of the earth. That album was Poison Kiss, and the one single from that album to really do well was “Pictures Of You”. The track hit No. 70 on the Hot 100 and did very well internationally. Sadly, their follow-up singles barely charted at all.
