How long have you been songwriting and performing?

I wrote my first song when I was 12, I was cleaning a house with my mom and it just kinda came to me. . and I’ve been in musical theatre at my local theatre since I was 4. The performing arts has been in my blood since I was a baby because of my mom. But it wasn’t until after experiencing quite a bit of hardship and abuse in my relationships, around 22 years old that I wrote my first song that actually was released and shared with the world. I really had to tap back into my love for it.

Why did you enter American Songwriter’s Lights, Camera, Talent Promotion?

I love American Songwriter, I read the magazine, I stay connected online. I wanted to give it a shot because I felt like this was one of the most important music videos we’ve ever created. I worked with my manager Meghan Walpole and Marmo films to create something incredible in like 24 hrs.

What was the inspiration behind your song and music video, “Medusa”?

When I wrote the song I wanted it to be a battle cry for anyone who’s ever gone through SA. I wanted to tell the untold story of Medusa. So when we created the video it was crucial that we captured that. While also modernizing it with me bathing in snakes, and showing all the survivors in throughout the video. As well as the moment where the men have me tied up with ropes and are yanking me back and forth.

Who are your all-time favorite songwriters and why?

NF, Amy Lee of Evanescence, Billie Eillish and Phineas O’Connell, and more recently Sleep Token. They all have a way of telling stories in the most beautiful gut wrenching way, I admire people that can create in a way that is so relatable and packaged so exquisitely

Are you planning to release any new music this year?

Yes! I actually just released my debut album, “traumacore raw and uncut”, which debuted on the iTunes Charts at #3 ! It’s been amazing.. and in the next few months I’ll be releasing my deluxe album. Very excited.

What would you tell other artists who are considering entering the contest?

Do it! Its worth a try, were all trying to take the right steps in the right direction. This is an amazing indicator of my career and my passions that I am in fact meant to do this. It’s a beautiful life affirming feeling. So give it a try! The world needs to see your art.
