This spring, Talking Heads guitarist/keyboardist Jerry Harrison hosted a series of six special screenings of his band’s acclaimed 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense in various U.S. cities in the Midwest. The events also featured Harrison introducing the movie, sharing behind-the-scenes stories, and fielding questions from the audience. In April 2025, Jerry also announced dates for six more Stop Making Sense screenings in September in the eastern U.S.

Now, more than two-dozen additional events throughout the States have been added to Harrison’s schedule. The new screenings span from a September 18 event in Washington, D.C., through a January 17 presentation in Bellingham, Washington.
Tickets for the screening events go on sale to the general public on Friday, August 2, at 10 a.m. local time. A pre-sale begins Wednesday, July 31, at 10 a.m. local time. You can find out more details and purchase tickets at Jerry-Harrison.com.
More About Stop Making Sense and the Screening Events
The screenings feature a newly restored, 4K version of Stop Making Sense, which first premiered in 2023, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the shows filmed for the movie. The updated flick also boasts a newly remixed Dolby Atmos soundtrack.
Harrison played a major role in the restoration of the film’s audio.
The upcoming events will be held in conjunction with Talking Heads’ 50th anniversary celebrations.
Stop Making Sense was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jonathan Demme. It captures performances from a four-night stand Talking Heads played in December 1983 at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles.
The shows took place during the band’s tour in support of its 1983 studio album, Speaking in Tongues. At the time, the group’s four core members—Harrison, frontman David Byrne, drummer Chris Frantz, and bassist Tina Weymouth—were augmented by five additional singers and musicians.
The film features a set of 18 songs from the band’s first six albums—from their 1977 debut, Talking Heads: 77, through Speaking in Tongues. One of the movie’s most iconic scenes features Byrne performing “Girlfriend Is Better” while wearing an oversized white suit.
More Jerry Harrison and Talking Heads News
Harrison currently is wrapping up the latest in a series of concert tours with ex-King Crimson singer/guitarist Adrian Belew that celebrate the 1981 Talking Heads album Remain in Light. The current trek comes to a close with a July 31 show at Webster Hall in New York City.
Meanwhile, Harrison co-produced and made musical contributions to veteran singer/songwriter Jonathan Richman’s latest solo album, Only Frozen Sky Anyway. Prior to joining Talking Heads, Harrison played with Richman in the influential Boston-based group The Modern Lovers.
This past Friday, July 25, Talking Heads released a deluxe version of its second studio album, More Songs About Buildings and Food (1978). The release of the expanded collection is part of the group’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Talking Heads also recently premiered the first-ever official music video for their early classic “Psycho Killer.” The clip stars Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan.
